About Quincy Reservoir

Quincy Reservoir is a compact urban fishing and recreation destination in Arapahoe County, tucked into the city of Aurora just southeast of Denver. Managed as part of the Aurora parks system, this reservoir requires a daily pass or an Aurora parks annual pass for entry, and the entrance station accepts cash only. With a roughly two-mile trail around the water and a reputation for quality bass fishing, Quincy Reservoir offers a quieter alternative to larger nearby options like Cherry Creek Reservoir and Aurora Reservoir for anglers, paddleboarders, and walkers seeking a peaceful outing close to home.

Fishing is the main attraction at Quincy Reservoir, and the rules are strict: artificial lures and plastics only, with no live bait permitted. Park rangers actively enforce these regulations, so visitors should confirm their tackle complies before entering. The reservoir holds largemouth bass, rainbow trout, and perch, and several anglers describe it as one of the best places to catch largemouth bass in Colorado, with fish reaching six to seven pounds. Shore fishing from the dock produces steady catches on panther martin lures, with some anglers reporting ten fish in a three-hour session. Fly fishing for rainbow trout is also productive, as the fish reportedly strike almost any fly pattern. The fishery has experienced some decline over the years due to illegal bait use and littering, but dedicated bass anglers still find rewarding action.

Paddleboarding and non-motorized boating are popular on the reservoir, particularly as a less crowded and less windy alternative to Aurora Reservoir during summer months. Motorized boats are not allowed, keeping the water calm and quiet. The trail around the reservoir follows a nice rolling path suitable for walking, running, and mountain biking, though it is not a complete loop. Hikers reach a dead end and must turn around or exit through a revolving gate that leads to Quincy Avenue. A morning walk around the reservoir takes roughly 45 minutes and provides active wildlife viewing, including pelicans, ducks, dragonflies, and various other birds and insects.

Dogs are not permitted at Quincy Reservoir, a rule in place to protect the natural habitat. The park is well-maintained and staffed by rangers who are generally described as helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. Picnic areas are available near the water. Blue-green algae blooms have been reported during certain periods, creating unpleasant conditions with heavy weed growth and odor that significantly degrades the fishing and overall experience. Weather at the reservoir can be unpredictable, so checking the forecast before a visit is wise. After snow, trail conditions can turn muddy. Despite its small size, Quincy Reservoir punches above its weight as a well-regulated urban fishery and a peaceful spot for paddle sports and nature walks right in the heart of the Denver metro area.

Didn't get in. They only take cash for entrance fees.

This is a cool place! There is water and lots of cool bugs and animals! We were down by the rocks on the dam and a duck got super close! Great place for a nature walk or hike!

Fishing was not very good. It's a nice looking reservoir though.

It's not too busy, the Rangers are helpful, and it's a nice trail to walk, run, or bicycle. It's not as windy as Aurora Reservoir, but it doesn't have as many amenities and is much smaller. Note, the trail is not a loop. You hit a dead end and have to exit the park or turn around.

Nice and quiet. Excellent place to fish or just a quiet boat ride. Caught this 19 inch Large mouth on my 13th Wedding Anniversary. Biggest Bass I've ever caught. Thanks Quincy Res. We will be back soon. - E. Turner

About two miles around the reservoir on a nice rolling trail. Not a perfect loop, the trail goes through a revolving gate that eventually leads back to Quincy and its sidewalk (but you can squeeze your mountain bike through). Beautiful fishing and picnic area. Helpful and knowledgeable staff at the office where you can purchase a yearly pass to it and Arapahoe Reservoir. Huge dragonflies!

It's a good lake for bass and other fish as well. The facility needs to post specific fishing rules better, and I wish the park rangers were more personable. Maybe choose to smile, but they are not doing anything wrong; they seem on edge. After checking my license, they came back and told me my PLASTIC “mock” corn kernel was not allowed and considered bait because it was not an inch or bigger. Still, the PLASTIC worms that are not an inch or bigger are fine because they do not imitate a food item the fish might swallow. The logic didn't track because what about flies or other lures much smaller people are constantly using. I would just say be extremely careful what you bring in and check with them at the guard post. What surprised me about this interaction was the lack of posted rules and communication. Just be careful y'all.

The fishing is usually hit or miss from the dock and shore, but it is usually pretty good if you can get out on the water. Several species to fish, including: Largemouth Bass, Rainbow Trout, and Perch. Great for paddleboarding, especially when Aurora Reservoir gets crowded in the summer. Weather is very unpredictable here, so keep an eye on the forecast and be prepared! Overall, it's a great little reservoir.

Very convenient from where we live and a great place to take my Grandson's to learn how to fish. He loves fishing and I can't think of a better place then Quincy Reservoir.
