About Bowles Lake

Bowles Lake occupies a scenic stretch of southern Arapahoe County, Colorado, bordered by residential neighborhoods in the Littleton area. This suburban lake offers striking views of the Front Range foothills and serves primarily as a neighborhood amenity, though passersby regularly stop to admire the water and catch a sunset. If you are driving through the area, Bowles Lake is worth a pause for the scenery, but visitors should know that most facilities and shoreline access are reserved for adjacent residents.

The lake itself is a decent-sized body of water that catches light beautifully at all hours. Sunrise and sunset are particularly rewarding, with the water reflecting the changing sky against a backdrop of foothills. A handful of benches line portions of the shore, providing spots to sit and take in the view without needing to venture onto the surrounding grass areas, many of which are posted as private property. Photographers and casual visitors will find plenty to appreciate from these public vantage points.

Walking and running along the roads adjacent to Bowles Lake is common, and you will see joggers and walkers taking advantage of the flat terrain and pleasant lakeside scenery. There is no formal paved trail circling the lake, so most exercise happens on the adjacent streets and sidewalks. The flat topography makes this an easy walk for all fitness levels.

Facilities at Bowles Lake are limited for the general public. The boat ramp, beach area, and grassy park spaces are private amenities tied to the surrounding neighborhood. There are no public restrooms, and parking is constrained, with most visitors pulling partially off the road to stop. This is not a destination for a full day of recreation, but rather a spot to enjoy briefly while passing through or to visit for a quick sunset picnic on one of the available benches.

Bowles Lake shines as a visual landmark in the south Denver metro. The combination of water, mountain views, and open sky creates a setting that feels less suburban than its zip code suggests. For residents of the surrounding neighborhoods, it is a genuine luxury. For visitors, it is a scenic detour that rewards a short stop, especially during golden hour when the lake surface turns amber and the Rockies frame the western horizon.

Gorgeous views but no place to park, so you kinda have to park half on the road half off. No facilities for the public. Appears to be private boat ramp and facilities to those that live in the neighborhood. The grass areas are actually listed as no trespassing private property, but I saw quite a few runners out there. I'd say stop by for a picture and move on to a more hospitable place 👍

I pass this lake very often and like it a lot! It’s very beautiful at all times of the day and it is a decent sized lake. I appreciate the benches on the sides so that you can sit and enjoy the view. The grass surrounding the lake is pretty poky and so it’s not very nice to sit on or play duck duck goose in but that’s a minor issue. One time there was this dude that passed me on my run and I got very negative energy from him so I just looked at the lake to avoid eye contact so it helped get me through a potentially awkward situation. Yeah, this is a nice lake surrounded by rich people’s houses so I’d give it a thumbs up.

So much fun. We walked along the lake and they have a beach for the neighborhood residence. Wish I lived in the neighborhood. Would be a great place for a BBQ.
