About Ketring Lake

Ketring Lake sits in the heart of Ketring Park in Littleton, one of the largest municipal parks in the city. The small urban lake, also known as Gallup Reservoir, draws neighborhood anglers, dog walkers, and families looking for a low-key outdoor break without leaving the suburbs. Paved paths wrap around roughly half the shoreline, connecting to the adjacent Littleton Museum grounds and surrounding residential neighborhoods.

Fishing is the primary draw. The lake holds largemouth bass, spotted bass, black crappie, and panfish, though results vary by season. Spring and fall tend to produce better catches, while summer months can bring heavy algae growth that frustrates anglers and limits visibility. Bank fishing access is straightforward, and the paved paths make it easy to reach multiple casting spots. No boats or watercraft of any kind are permitted on the water.

The park surrounding the lake offers picnic areas, open green space, and ample parking on both the Gallup Street and Lakeview Street sides. Ketring Park connects to the Littleton Museum, a free attraction featuring living history farms with costumed interpreters, a blacksmith shop, and rotating art exhibits. The combination makes for a solid half-day family outing.

Swimming and boating are not allowed at Ketring Lake, so this is strictly a shoreline destination. Dogs are welcome on leash (six-foot maximum), and the paved path provides a pleasant loop for walkers. Park hours run from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily, and there is no entry fee.

Ketring Lake works best as a quick fishing stop or a relaxing walk rather than an all-day adventure. Manage your expectations for fish size and water clarity, especially during warmer months when algae blooms can take over. For a bigger fishing experience, Chatfield Reservoir and the South Platte River are both a short drive away.

Anybody saying they're catching anything other than algae or weeds here is lying. Maybe it used to be a nice spot, but there is 0 chance of getting anything out of here with the disgusting amount of algae present today. Huge disappointment as so many reviews are positive. Might be different during another time of year but I'm not holding my breath, the water is seriously nasty, really not sure why there are so many people wasting their time there fishing.
