About Wrights Reservoir

Wrights Reservoir is a scenic mountain reservoir in Teller County, Colorado, situated along County Road 11 near the Four Mile Fire Station. Located roughly 10 minutes from the historic mining town of Cripple Creek, this small reservoir sits in a quiet pocket of the Front Range foothills where wildlife sightings are common and the surrounding landscape is genuinely beautiful.

Access to Wrights Reservoir is restricted. The property operates as a private fishing club, and visitors need a paid membership to fish or use the shoreline. Annual memberships have been reported at approximately $684 per year for lake-only access. This means casual visitors and day-trippers will find the gates closed — if you are camping in the area, check access rules before building your trip around this reservoir. Travelers passing through on CR11 can still appreciate the scenery from the road, and the surrounding area offers excellent wildlife viewing opportunities including deer, elk, and various bird species.

For those who do secure membership, Wrights Reservoir reportedly offers great fishing in a setting that feels both peaceful and well-preserved. The private access keeps pressure low, which translates to healthier fish populations and a quieter experience compared to heavily trafficked public waters nearby. Members describe the reservoir as a place worth protecting — the kind of spot where you want to leave no trace and keep conditions pristine for future visits.

Writs Reservoir sits in a corridor rich with outdoor recreation options. The Cripple Creek and Victor area provides historical attractions, casinos, and dining within a short drive. Evergreen Station is nearby for basic supplies. Several public campgrounds and dispersed camping areas operate in the surrounding national forest, making the region a solid base camp for a multi-day Teller County trip — even if the reservoir itself requires membership. Visitors drawn to this part of Colorado will find no shortage of public fishing waters, hiking trails, and mountain scenery within easy reach of Wrights Reservoir.

Just drove by Wright's Reservoir today. It's a great lake that's on CR11 right near the 4 Mile Fire Station. Close by is Evergreen Station, and it's about 10 minutes to Cripple Creek. It's members only, though, and if you'd like to fish there or get access, it's $684/year for a membership for this property only.

Very close to our campground but wish we would have seen that it is not open to the public. You have to belong to a club to gain access.

Good for spotting wildlife, but access is limited

I hate putting nice places like this on here because it's the fastest way to lose a nice place. Don't come here. It's beautiful and peaceful and you're just going to ruin it. Keep driving! If you just have to stop, leave no trace. Take your dirty diapers and your beer cans with you.
