About Manitou Park Lake

Manitou Park Lake is a small, scenic five-acre reservoir nestled at 7,700 feet in Teller County, about seven miles north of Woodland Park along Colorado Highway 67. Managed by the Pike National Forest, this mountain lake draws families, anglers, and picnickers looking for a relaxed day in the Pikes Peak region without a demanding hike or long dirt-road approach. If you want a quick escape from Colorado Springs with mountain views and easy shoreline access, Manitou Park Lake is a solid pick.

Fishing is the primary draw here. The reservoir is fed by Trout Creek, and Colorado Parks and Wildlife stocks the lake periodically. Expect to catch rainbow trout and brown trout, though visitors report mixed results depending on the season and how recently the lake has been stocked. Trout Creek itself runs above the lake through a series of beaver ponds that offer stream-fishing opportunities for those willing to explore upstream. Fly fishing works well in the creek sections, while bait and lure fishing are more common along the lake's shoreline.

A walking trail (Trail 670) circles the lake and makes for a pleasant, easy stroll suitable for all ages. The terrain is gentle and the loop is short, giving families with young children a chance to stretch their legs while watching for wildlife. The surrounding ponderosa pine forest provides some shade, though the lake's immediate shoreline is fairly open.

The Manitou Lake Recreation Area offers 42 picnic sites with tables, fire grates, potable water, vault toilets, and trash collection. A pavilion provides covered gathering space for groups. Parking is ample for the size of the area. Swimming and motorized boats are not permitted on the lake, keeping the atmosphere quiet and family-friendly.

A day-use fee is charged per vehicle. Nearby camping options include South Meadow Campground (64 sites at 8,000 feet) and Colorado Campground (81 sites at 7,800 feet), both within a short drive on Highway 67. Sites accommodate vehicles up to 30 feet long and cost $15 per night.

Manitou Park Lake is best visited from late spring through early fall, when the picnic area is fully staffed and the weather cooperates. Winter visits are possible since the area remains open year-round, but services are reduced and the access road may be icy. The staff on-site is consistently described as friendly and helpful.

Came to check this out during winter. Smallest trail ever and they wanted a 10 dollar fee still 🤣 not even worth it. It was beautiful but not for me being out there 10 minutes to have to pay. Park Ranger Rick pulled up real quick making sure we pay this fee too.

Lovely mountain lake and park. Good for a picnic or walk. Admission is $10, or $5 with a Golden Eagle Pass.

Beautiful park with walking trails, Beach area, lots of parking, restrooms and a nice shelter area. It was $10 per card to get in.

$10 for each car. Boaters have no respect for people trying to fish and will cross over your line a million times and not care. Fishing is a joke, there doesn't seem to be any fish in the darn lake. 5 of us went and caught nothing. People on both sides of us caught nothing. Watched 1 kid get a fish all the hours we were here. Won't ever come back. Boaters crossing over your lines aren't worth the fees you pay to come here. Beautiful scenery, that's it. The rest is worthless.

Costs $8 and it's worth every penny. Beautiful, serene, and scenic. Family friendly with picnic tables so pack a lunch!

Good little spot to spend a relaxing day. Very family-friendly including a couple easy walking trails. Interesting rock formations can be found near the west end of the parking. There are nice shady picnic areas but there isn’t a lot of trees around the lake itself. Fair amount of parking considering the size. Staff was friendly and helpful. Restrooms are pit toilets.

Beautiful park with a nice size lake. Very relaxing. We caught a couple of fish but they were small. It was a good day trip 😊
