About Pearl Lake

Pearl Lake State Park is one of Colorado's most peaceful paddleboarding and kayaking destinations, tucked into the mountains of Routt County about 40 minutes north of Steamboat Springs. This no-wake lake draws visitors who want calm, glassy water without the noise of motorboats — mornings are especially serene before afternoon winds pick up. A lakeside concession stand rents paddleboards, kayaks, and canoes (around $46-50 per hour for a canoe, safety jacket included), and also serves snacks, beer, and wine.

Pearl Lake camping features 38 primitive campsites split across two loops. The lower loop offers direct lake access and more shade, while the upper loop rewards campers with panoramic 360-degree mountain views and spectacular stargazing far from city lights. Two heated yurts with electricity are available for year-round stays, including winter trips. Sites accommodate tents and small-to-medium RVs, but there are no hookups, no dump station, and no showers on site. Potable water spigots and vault toilets are available throughout the park. Showers, laundry, and a dump station are accessible at nearby Steamboat Lake State Park, roughly four miles away.

Fishing at Pearl Lake is best done from a kayak, as shore fishing can be challenging due to the terrain. Fly fishing and lure fishing are both popular. A 2.6-mile out-and-back hiking trail follows the waterfront, offering chances to spot eagles, deer, and wildflowers — note that the trail dead-ends at a willow thicket and is not a complete loop. Dogs are welcome at Pearl Lake, including on paddleboards and kayaks. Visitors should bring their own firewood, as it is not sold in the park. A Colorado Parks and Wildlife pass or Keep Colorado Wild annual pass is required for entry. Pearl Lake is quietest on weekdays and during the off-season, when you may have the entire park nearly to yourself.

I was over at Steamboat Lake and drove over to check out this state park. I am sure glad I did. A nice easy trail around the lake and really pretty views. #coparkspassport

This is my 11th year camping at Pearl Lake State Park. My family takes an annual trip every year and this still ranks as one of our favorites. There's an incredible view of the lake no matter of you're on the upper our lower loop. Temps were colder this year than expected and we experienced quite a bit of rain, but made the best of the views and quiet!

We were scouting out potential camping places. We did not go here, but it's beautiful enough that we plan to go in the near future!

Nice park with a usually smooth lake that's great for kayaking and fishing. It's difficult to fish from shore but fishing from kayak is easy. There are no showers or flush toilets at this park. I believe there are 36 sites for tent or RV's.
