About Kendrick Lake Number 1

Kendrick Lake Number 1 is a 31-acre urban reservoir tucked into a quiet neighborhood park in Lakewood, Jefferson County, roughly halfway between Wadsworth and Kipling boulevards. Whether you need a reliable after-work walking loop, a family-friendly fishing spot, or a shady playground within 15 minutes of downtown Denver, Kendrick Lake Park delivers all three without the drive to the mountains.

A 1.2-mile paved path circles the entire lake and stays flat enough for strollers, wheelchairs, and casual joggers. The trail is wide, well-maintained, and dotted with benches that face west toward the Front Range foothills, so sunset walks here are a local favorite. Runners who want more distance simply add laps — three loops equal a comfortable 5K. Dogs are welcome on leash, and you will see plenty of them on any given afternoon.

Fishing from the shore is popular with families. The lake holds largemouth bass, channel catfish, and bluegill, and visitors report steady action year-round. A valid Colorado fishing license is required for anglers 16 and older. There is no boat ramp, but float tubes and small non-motorized watercraft are occasionally seen on the water.

The park grounds include a large modern playground, a reservable picnic pavilion that seats up to 60 people, charcoal grills, and clean public restrooms near the parking lot. One of the park's hidden highlights is a recognized xeric demonstration garden near the entrance, showcasing drought-tolerant plants and succulents suited to Colorado's semi-arid climate.

Kendrick Lake Park is open daily from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Parking is free in the southeast lot off West Jewell Avenue. The park sits at roughly 5,600 feet of elevation and stays accessible year-round, though the paved path can be icy in winter. Because the loop is short and the amenities are family-oriented, this is one of the best introductory outdoor spots in the Denver metro area for young children, seniors, and anyone who wants a peaceful hour outside without a long commitment.

Kendrick Lake Park is one of my mom’s and my favorite small parks. The mountain views to the west are stunning, and the lake makes it even more beautiful. It’s the perfect size for a walk or jog, you can go around a few times depending on how long you want to stay. I’ve been running here weekly lately, and with the fall colors, it’s been gorgeous. Peaceful, family-friendly, and full of dogs, such a lovely little gem! 🌿🏞️

Great one-mile walking path. The path has everything, small elevated portions, and wide paths for those walking their dogs to not interfere with the walkers/runners. Be aware eBikes go very fast on the paths.

This lovely little park features a playground, numerous benches, a sizable lake for fishing, walking paths, and plenty of open spaces for gatherings of all sizes! There are public restrooms as well as what appears to be a "native garden" near the parking lot.
