About Baehr Reservoir

Baehr Reservoir is a scenic fishing and recreation spot nestled in Jefferson County, Colorado, offering mountain views, open space, and easy trail access in the foothills southwest of Denver. The reservoir sits alongside a creek corridor, giving visitors both still-water and moving-water scenery in one outing. With picnic areas, multiple trails, and a peaceful setting, Baehr Reservoir draws families, anglers, and hikers looking for a nature-rich escape without a long mountain drive.

Fishing is the primary activity at Baehr Reservoir, and the experience varies significantly depending on timing. The reservoir is periodically stocked with trout, and the days immediately following a stocking event are the most productive. Anglers who arrive within the first week of a fresh stock report solid catches, while fishing between stockings can be slow. Bank access is the main fishing method here, though overgrown vegetation along portions of the shoreline can limit casting space, especially during peak summer growth. Arriving early on weekday mornings is the best strategy for securing a good spot and avoiding crowds.

The area surrounding Baehr Reservoir includes open space with multiple trails that wind through the foothills terrain. These unpaved paths are suitable for hiking, walking, and casual nature exploration. The scenery is consistently praised by visitors, with mountain backdrops and the mix of water and meadow creating a photogenic landscape throughout the warmer months. Wildflowers add seasonal color in late spring and early summer.

Families will find Baehr Reservoir a good destination for introducing kids to fishing in a manageable, accessible setting. The open picnic areas provide space to set up for a day out, and the combination of trails and water keeps children engaged beyond just fishing. Bird watching is productive along the creek corridor, and the varied habitat supports a range of foothill species.

Visitors should be aware of a few practical considerations. Horse flies can be persistent during summer, so insect repellent is a worthwhile addition to any gear bag. Snakes have been reported in the area, which is typical of Front Range foothill habitats; staying on trails and watching where you step addresses the risk. The reservoir can get crowded on weekends and immediately after stocking, so weekday visits deliver a quieter experience. Facilities are limited, so plan to bring your own water and supplies.

Crowded, fished out and full of snakes. The overgrowth along the banks leaves very little space for anyone to fish if it's crowded. You'll see a ton of specific individuals here when they stock it to fish the place out. After the first week it's stocked, its empty and not worth wetting a line. People need to learn to follow possession limits and stop catching keeping everything they get.
