About Marshall Lake

Marshall Lake sits in the eastern foothills of Boulder County, just a short distance from the towns of Louisville and Superior. If you have stumbled across this lake while scanning a map of Front Range water, you should know upfront that Marshall Lake is privately owned and operated by the Louisville Rod and Gun Club, a sportsman's organization established in 1952. Public access is not available, and visitors who arrive without membership will be turned away at the gate.

The club manages roughly 30 to 40 acres of water surrounded by rolling grassland and foothill terrain. Members of the Louisville Rod and Gun Club enjoy year-round access to a quiet retreat that feels miles from suburban development even though it lies fewer than two miles from town. The lake holds populations of rainbow trout, cutthroat trout, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, bluegill, crappie, and carp, giving anglers a diverse fishery rarely found on the Front Range. Members report solid catch rates for trout throughout the cooler months and warm-water species during summer.

Beyond fishing, the property offers mountain biking on singletrack trails that wind through the foothills, primitive camping for overnight stays, and hiking routes with sweeping views of the Continental Divide. Club events and organized outings run throughout the year, building a tight-knit community of outdoor enthusiasts who value the privacy and stewardship the club provides. Livestock graze the surrounding open space, so visitors should expect to encounter cattle along the access road.

Because Marshall Lake is a private facility, there are no public restrooms, boat ramps, or maintained trailheads. Anyone interested in gaining access must become a member of the Louisville Rod and Gun Club or receive a personal invitation from a current member. Membership is typically obtained through nomination by an existing member. If you are searching for public fishing opportunities nearby, consider Walden Ponds, Sawhill Ponds, or Boulder Reservoir, all of which are open to the public and located within a short drive.

this is a great location. Lake and surrounding property is leased by the Louisville Rod and Gun Club where we put on a events and activities at year round, I am able to enjoy year round patronage to this Lake I can camp fish hike mountain bike and relax in peace and quiet and only a mile or two from town. It is a great escape for me I spend many hours a week throughout the year here.

Another selfish human. Don’t go here: it’s privately owned like all the other lakes in Boulder. Terrible

Locals only, and because of that no poofy jackets allowed unfortunately

I always like camping here. It's membership only, so you have to find the clubs and get nominated or know a member to gain access. Don't just stroll up (you'll be turned away)

So this place is private owned, you will walk uphill roughly 1-2 miles, there will be livestock roaming around the "path" and once you get to the lake, it is closed off to the public and you cant even take nice pictures at the lake. If you decide to go, during sunset you will at least get some nice pictures of the moutains.
