About Loukonen Brothers Reservoir

Loukonen Brothers Reservoir is a private lake in Boulder County, located just south of the city of Boulder near the intersection of South Boulder Road and the surrounding residential communities. Before planning a visit, the most important thing to know is that this reservoir is restricted to residents and authorized guests only. The lake is actively patrolled, and signs at the property clearly indicate that public access is not permitted.

The reservoir itself is a scenic body of water nestled along the Front Range corridor, with views of the Flatirons and the foothills to the west. Residents who do have access describe it as a beautiful and well-maintained property featuring a small beach area along the shoreline. The setting offers a peaceful retreat with the dramatic backdrop of Boulder's signature rock formations rising in the distance.

For those with authorized access, the reservoir provides a quiet spot for relaxation along the water. The beach area offers a place to wade and enjoy the scenery during warm months. The lake is small enough to feel intimate and private, which is precisely the point for the community that maintains it.

If you are not a resident or do not have a guest pass, this is not a destination worth driving to. Multiple visitors have reported making the trip only to discover that public access is prohibited, and enforcement is consistent. Rangers patrol the area regularly, and trespassing is taken seriously.

For those looking for publicly accessible lakes and reservoirs near Boulder, several excellent alternatives exist within a short drive. Baseline Reservoir, Lagerman Reservoir, and Walden Ponds Wildlife Habitat are all within Boulder County and offer public access for fishing, walking, and wildlife viewing. Boulder Reservoir to the north provides a full range of water recreation including swimming, paddling, and boating.

Loukonen Brothers Reservoir sits at approximately 5,400 feet elevation in one of Colorado's most desirable areas, with the Boulder trail system and open space network surrounding the property. The reservoir serves as both a water storage facility and a private recreational amenity for the neighboring community.

Nice little lake with beach area however theres several signs that say for residents only or guests with a pass. Apparently rangers patrol it sooooo we didn't stick around. Im just leaving this review so someone doesn't drive all the way out there like we did.
