About Hotel Lake

Hotel Lake sits at over 10,500 feet on the Grand Mesa in Delta County, Colorado, adjacent to the Grand Mesa Lodge. This high-altitude lake draws visitors year-round for fishing, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and cabin stays in a remote mountain setting. The lodge offers rustic cabins ranging from single-room units to multi-bedroom layouts with full kitchens, gas stoves, and furnaces. A restaurant on-site serves pulled pork, smoked brisket, pizza, chicken pot pie soup, and tomato bisque, along with a full bar, draft beer, and soft-serve ice cream. Visitors can book VIP packages that bundle meals, beverages, and boat rentals at a modest upcharge from standard cabin rates.

Fishing at nearby Island Lake is a popular warm-season activity, accessible via a trail that descends from the cabins. The hike down to the lake requires sturdy footwear and water, so plan accordingly. Boating and kayaking are available through the lodge rental program. A dock on the water provides access for anglers and boaters, though visitors should watch for uneven terrain and cables near the dock area. During fire ban seasons, open flames and campfires may be prohibited, so check current Stage 1 or Stage 2 fire restrictions before packing a grill.

Winter transforms Grand Mesa into a snowmobiling and cross-country skiing destination. The lodge offers guided snowmobile tours with equipment provided, including snow gear for riders without their own. Cross-country ski trails at the Grand Mesa County line area are free, well-marked, and located within a two-minute drive. The lodge also rents snowshoes for quieter winter exploration. A bath house with a hot tub is available for guests, and some cabins include wood stoves for added warmth on cold nights when temperatures drop to single digits.

Camping and RV camping are offered on the property, with 30-amp electrical hookups at RV sites. However, campsites can be uneven and lack level pads, so RV campers should bring leveling blocks. Restrooms in the lodge are accessible when the building is open, but availability is limited to lodge operating hours. Cell service is minimal on the mesa, and cabins do not have internet, making this an ideal spot for unplugging and board games by firelight. The lodge itself has limited connectivity for those who need to check in briefly.

Bear activity has been reported on the property, with sightings near cabins and dumpsters, so secure food and trash properly. Dogs are welcome at the lodge and in cabins. The property sits right off Highway 65, providing easy access with free parking. Construction projects for new cabins may cause daytime noise, so ask about active work before booking if quiet is a priority. Alcohol pricing runs around six dollars for draft beer and ten dollars per shot. Cancellation and rebooking policies are strict, with no partial refunds for shortened stays, so confirm dates carefully before reserving.

We had a lovely stay in Cabin 5. The cabin was the perfect size for 2 adults and a kid. The faucets and shower had hot water right away, there were plenty of warm quilts, and staff kept the access road plowed. Dinner (even a kids menu!) and drinks at the lodge were a hit. They even had live music one night! Thanks for a such a fun stay!

Second year at the cabins for skiing and it was awesome once again. Great location for nordic ski access, helpful staff, peace and quiet + a wood stove (not sure if those are in all the cabins) = a great getaway. Hot tub house looked nice and will check that out next time.

We stayed in a cabin #16 for 3 nights, our water froze the first night (it was not terribly cold, only about 18 degrees) which caused a very stressful morning with no water, no flushing toilet, and my Mom packing her luggage and asking us to take her home. The cabin is terribly built with drifty windows, very leaky door (you can see the outside around the door rim, yikes), and very squeaky stairs and beds, so anytime someone went to the bathroom, other people woke up. It also only had 4 chairs when it sleeps 7 people. Repairs are made in a very patch-worky make-shift way. Another inconvenience was that someone before us had a dog and we had dog hair all over our clothes. Those who do not appreciate pets will understand. The largest disappointment was that we had to change our dates of our stay but paid the original price which was $326 extra. We never got refunded and never even were offered to be refunded. Here is what happened - we had to move the dates to arrive before New Year's which did not include holidays, which originally cost $348 per each holiday day in the reservation system. The new dates did not include New Years Eve and Day and were supposed to be $185/each according to the reservation system. However, when we arrived, we were presented with the original price of the reservation. When we inquired about it, we were asked to call Dane, who stated that the lodge does not control the reservation system (so WHO does?), which is driven by supply and demand. I argued that the demand was very low, only three other cabins were occupied during our stay, and the price should be lower, that we should pay the $185 that the reservation system showed. Again, I was told that they cannot do anything about it because it is the reservation system. I got even more frustrated because if I cancelled our original stay, which is possible up to two weeks and when I was changing the dates, it as before the deadline, so if I cancelled, I would get a full refund. Then, I would book the new dates and saved $326. I wish I was told by the manager when I was on the phone with him changing the dates that we will still be charged the original more expensive price. Furthermore, even if the lodge is not in charge of the reservation system, the entity that benefits and that gets my money is the lodge. I do not understand why they would not refund me. It is unprofessional and feels like the lodge tries to get every penny from everyone. Don't tell me that if someone makes a reservation for a week but then can only stay three days, the lodge will still charge them for a week. Or, if they book some days over Christmas or 4th of July but then change the dates, they will still be charged a lot more for holidays. Well, that is exactly what happened. Jitka

The water situation was fortunatley solved within two hours and did not hapen again, except we had a power cable going through a cracked open window for the next two nights when it was about 10 degrees at night. We had a wonderful stay in Cabin 10 at Grand Mesa Lodge. The kitchen was well equipped, and the cabin was perfect for a cozy board game and puzzle-filled weekend away. We added the bath house and really enjoyed the hot tub. We did have some issues getting the sauna to heat up properly, but it didn’t take away from our overall experience. The XC ski trails were excellent and very well maintained, which made this an ideal winter getaway. We enjoyed it so much that we plan to come back every year for a winter escape. Highly recommend!

My mum and I came here to celebrate her birthday and had an amazing experience! I ordered the brisket sandwich with sweet potato fries (with cinnamon sugar, highly recommend!), and she had the pulled pork sandwich with regular fries. Everything was absolutely excellent. For dessert, we tried their s’mores and were actually the first customers to order it! It was delicious, and having an open flame right at the table made it even more fun. The portion sizes were massive, definitely built for NFL linebackers, so we each took home about half of our meals and more than half of the s’mores. Great food, generous portions, and a really fun experience overall. Tell Carl ‘Hi’ for us; We’ll definitely be back!

We stayed in cabin 5. Rustic, but modern gas stove for cooking and furnace kept us warm. Some might choose to bring an extra blanket if they are always cold. We went cross country skiing at the Grand Mesa County line area, 2 minutes away. Gentle rolling, beautiful scenery, well marked trails and free! No internet in the cabin, but we loved playing cribbage. Overall, a great wintertime get away!

Grand Mesa Lodge is a fantastic place for a group event. We had our company party there over the weekend and it was great. The setting was beautiful, the staff were amazing and the food was incredible- best brisket I have ever had! Thanks for hosting and accommodating our group. We had a great time!
